Challenging ideas are born only in dedicated people…
So, everything started from a guy Roman who was searching for some student exchange programs around the world. After attending his first event in Lviv he came back already caught by BEST-spirit disease. This historical trip happened in October 2005 and since then the BEST-spirit started invading our university.
So, in the beginning of 2006 we were already at least four people who came to RM Kosice to try out what BEST really is. First BEST trainings, first BEST experience, first BEST parties, first BEST friends? Greatest thanks and honours should be given to Alexandru Aleman, the Regional Advisor of Mongolia region at that time. He helped, advised and motivated our young and still not created officially group. Since that event we have so many jokes and even a tradition (actually a fetish hehe? just kidding (: ) of wearing a gas mask. During the way to Lviv Zaporizhzhians have decided to speak only English and the punishment for breaking the rule was? wearing a gas mask for three minutes. I still wonder where did they find an old 'edition' of gas mask (but I wonder more WHY?)
This Regional Meeting became one of the turning points in our history. After coming back a hard work on collecting documents and other registration procedures have started. However our application was not accepted from the first time. This was disappointing, but it gave a new boost of energy for applying again and being sure in the reality of 'Veni, vidi, vici!' thing.
On the Regional Meeting Iasi 2006 one of our inspired members, Alexandra Dolgaya has made a presentation of our group and our motivation to become the lbg. The plans in front of us were great, the work in front of us was even greater. But we have already known what does the challenge thing really mean!
So in November 2006 our first and beloved board was created. Alexandra Dolgaya, Inna Granishevska, Vitaly Balakhonov, Karina Zalavska, Tatiana Fedoronchak - these names are now the history and pride of our lbg. So in a friendly atmosphere in a student café the work on creating lbg ZP has started.
That is how a Local BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) Group was founded at Zaporizhzhya National technical University (ZNTU). It happened long 2 years ago, in January 2007. At that time six students of ZNTU decided that simple education and simple communication was not enough and they needed European education and European communication! They decided to become more open-minded and to look at the world around them... And now after 2 years of quite successful existence we do the same thing with the help of our 18 open-minded active members!
Then everything has become a kaleidoscope of events, memories, emotions and people. After RM Krakow 2007 our two beloved delegates had started preparations for GA 2007 France. Inna and Alexandra were like ambassadors with the biggest concentration of wish and motivation to become observers. Even if somebody was still not sure about our real motivation, Inna and Alexanda have broken their unsureness.
We realize the most manifold ideas and participate in the most manifold projects... But the only purpose we aim at is to enable Ukrainian students of technology to realize their abilities internationally, to gain great experience, to get additional education and unforgettable contacts with other European cultures and also with unforgettable students of technology!;)
We've already organised:
- Regional Meeting (October 2007), at which 60 students from the near abroad took part;
- Workshop (March 2008), dedicated to the quantity and the quality of BEST annual events (13 participants from all over Europe);
- Summer Course (July 2008) 'NOITAZITAMOTUA. Want to know more? Reverse it!' with 18 participants and 4 co-organisers;
- Workshop (March 2009) on Knowledge Management topic and BEST performance indicators topic.
Active members of our group have been co-organisers of different events in Ukraine as well as in Sweden, Romania and other countries. These are such events as:
- Courses on Technology;
- Jobfairs for students;
- All-Ukrainian computer festival DE:CODED...
As a result the students have obtained new knowledge in different topics in abundance, become experienced in organising and coordinating events and also had a broad practice of English. And of course they had got a lot of pleasure, it's well known that there can be no successful undertaking without enjoying a cause;)
We don't become complacent with our achievements and new battles are waiting for us!
